INGREDIENTS:

3 large chard leaves, washed well

1 cup frozen mango

1 cup strawberries

1 cup plain Greek yogurt

1/4 cup walnuts

1 tablespoon flax seed

1/2 – 1 cup water

HOW-TO: Place the ingredients into a high speed blender. Add enough water for easier blending.

WHY DOES IT WORK?

SWISS CHARD

Our scalp and hair need enough beta carotene (vitamin A) to stay in good condition and prevent dandruff, dryness and itchiness. This smoothie has loads of vitamin A from the chard and mangoes. Dark leafy greens, such as chard, are also iron-rich which helps strengthen hair.

STRAWBERRIES

Another important nutrient is vitamin C, and strawberries are one of the best sources. Vitamin C will increase blood circulation to help these nutrients make their way to the scalp.

MANGO

Mangoes are another great source of vitamin A. Or you can also substitute peach.

WALNUTS

Walnuts are one of the best nut-based sources of omega-3s and are also rich in biotin (a B vitamin) and vitamin E. Those two (B and E) will help protect hair against sun damage. Zinc deficiencies can lead to hair loss, so eat walnuts that have zinc, copper and biotin.

FLAX SEED

Flax seed has lignans, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids. Lignans are believed to help prevent hair loss.

GREEK YOGURT

And don’t forget your dairy – Greek yogurt contains large amounts of protein, B5 and vitamin D.
