Holiday Ribbon Braid

December 9, 2014

1. Section off the hair on the top of your head in a horseshoe shape (the base of the horseshoe is at your crown).

2. Gather all the hair from the front section loosely on the top of your head and tie a long black ribbon (twice as long as your hair) around the base in a knight knot. If it slips, go back and tie it wth an elastic first. Let the ends drop to either side. 3. Separate the hair into three parts and place the ribbon in each of the two outside sections. Every few rotations, tie the ribbon together in a knot and start braiding haphazardly again. When you reach that back section of hair, tie off the ribbon and take out the clip. Gather all your hair together and create three new sections (with the ribbon still in the outside ones), then continue braiding to the nape of your neck. 4. Use bobby pins the same color as your hair to push saggy pieces back into the braid and exaggerate the Mohawk shape on top.

TIP: It’s easiest to insert accessories after you finish braiding. Attach anything stringlike to a┬álarge knitting needle or chopstick and weave it through the braid until you reach┬áthe ends. Or anchor pins, flowers, or other accessories in the base of the braid.
